Question Time - Ordinary Meeting of Council - 26 May 2015

The following questions were addressed to the above meeting. Some questions were adequately responded to at the meeting, however others required a more detailed response in writing.

This document includes both verbal and written responses. In this instance, no written responses were provided as issues were adequately addressed at the meeting.

Evan Hardie submitted questions in relation to the sale of land in Ocean Grove prior to the meeting.

The General Manager - Strategy & Performance provided Mr Hardie with a written response to his questions on 28 May 2015.

Mary Wallace asked:

  1. Through you, Mr Mayor, because Rhiannon Bourke has been Governance Co ordinator since at least the start of 2012 and has formal responsibility for the Council Minutes, could she confirm that the Minutes that were removed from the public Council website in December 2012 were from the end of 2011 going back approximately ten years?

The Mayor took the question on notice.

  2. When my husband here on 9th September 2014 raised the removal of public access to pre-2012 Minutes from the Council website, Cr Rod Macdonald said he had recently accessed Minutes from 2008 and, when my husband next raised the matter on 11th November 2014 Cr Rod Macdonald said he just used Google and since we have found trying to access pre-2012 Minutes using a Google search hit and miss, haphazard, unreliable and since on the Council website page regarding pre-2012 Minutes, it only advises to contact a customer service centre, nothing about going to Google, could Cr Rod Macdonald explain what he meant?

The Mayor responded the issue has already been responded to and is repetitive and frivolous in nature and therefore disallowed.

A subsequent written response was provided by the General Manager Strategy & Performance in the following terms:

I refer to your questions raised during Question Time at the Council Meeting held on 26 May 2015.

Vicky Grosser representing the Geelong One Fire Reconciliation Group addressed Council as follows:

Geelong One Fire Reconciliation Group appreciated Cr Eddy Kontelj and officer Kevin Krastins coming to meet with us and local Aboriginal interested parties in February this year, for an update on the first year of the Karreenga Action Plan. In particular, we discussed ways to progress the Aboriginal Employment and Economic Development strategies and outcomes, including permanent and integrated jobs within Council.

One Fire members would be pleased to be engaged in the plans progress over the coming year, and would like to hear how the actions planned for 2015/16 on Page 3 of the Council report will be implemented.

We are also interested in how awareness of the plan in the wider community will be developed.

The Mayor responded that the issues raised will be addressed during debate of the item.

Cr E Kontelj added that he would elaborate further during the debate and that he is happy to meet to discuss the matter further.
