Enter the City of Greater Geelong 2027 Calendar Competition

Entry requirements

  1. Each entrant may submit as many entries into the competition as they wish.
  2. Photographs entered in the competition must depict locations from within the current City of Greater Geelong boundaries. Refer to the City of Greater Geelong ward map if unsure.
  3. Photographs must be original photographs taken by the entrant submitting them. Entrants must own the copyright in the photograph to be eligible for the competition.
  4. Photographs captured before or during the competition period are eligible.
  5. AI-generated or significantly AI-altered photographs are not eligible. Basic photo editing is permitted.
  6. Photographs may be taken using film, digital cameras or phone cameras. First-round entries must be submitted at A4 size, 72 dpi and in landscape orientation. Finalist photographs must be provided at A3 size, a minimum of 300 dpi and in landscape orientation.
  7. Photographs may be submitted in either black and white or colour.
  8. Photographs may be submitted in a range of digital formats. For example, JPEG, TIFF and EPS.
  9. Shortlisted photographers will be requested to provide high resolution files, suitable for print quality at A3 size.
  10. Photographs may be edited to adjust errors in composition, exposure, brightness and contrast, however content must not be removed, added, altered or distorted beyond the truth of the original photograph. The judges reserve the right to request the original image if they suspect excessive retouching has been performed.
  11. Alterations permitted in the competition include but are not limited to:
  • cropping
  • rotation for example, to straighten a crooked horizon
  • adjustments to brightness and contrast
  • noise reduction, minimal sharpening and softening
  • conversion from colour to black and white (that is, total desaturation)
  • removal of sensor dust.

12. Photographs should not be watermarked or have fonts, logos or signatures added to them.

13. Entries must be submitted online via the City of Greater Geelong website. Files submitted on DVD, CD, USB or via FTP will not be accepted. Faxed or emailed entries will not be accepted. 14. Entrants must provide a valid return email address and phone number for ease of correspondence.

15. Entrants must agree to these entry requirements and the terms and conditions of entry (see below) when entering the competition.

16. Entrants aged less than 18 years at the commencement of the competition on Friday 31 July 2026 and must have obtained parental or guardian permission and complete the under 18 section of the online entry form.

Terms and Conditions of Entry

By participating in this competition, you agree to the following terms and conditions:

1. Competition details

1.1 The promoter of this competition is the Greater Geelong City Council, 137-149 Mercer Street, Geelong VIC 3220, ABN 18 374 210 672 (City).

1.2 The competition opens 6:00am on Friday 31 July 2026 and closes at 3:00pm on Friday 18 September 2026.

2. Entries

2.1 Entry is open to persons 18 years of age and over/ or are under 18 years of age but who have parent or guardian consent to enter.

2.2 By entering this competition, you warrant to the City that you are eligible to enter this competition based on these terms and conditions.

2.3 Entry into the competition is deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions. If you do not agree with any part of these terms and conditions you should not enter the competition or accept any prize resulting from entry into the competition.

2.4 Employees of the City of Greater Geelong are eligible for this competition.

2.5 Employees and their immediate families of the City’s Customer, Marketing, Communications and Advocacy Office and those directly involved with this competition are ineligible to enter.

2.6 Each entrant may submit as many entries into the competition as they wish.

2.7 The City reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of entries and to disqualify any entrant who tampers with the entry process or who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these terms and conditions. Failure by the City to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.

2.8 The use of any automated entry software or any other mechanical or electronic means that allows an entrant to automatically enter the competition repeatedly is prohibited and will render all entries submitted by that entrant invalid.

2.9 Incomplete, indecipherable or illegible entries will be deemed invalid. No responsibility is accepted by the City for late, lost or misdirected entries.
Images that are considered of an offensive nature will be rejected.

2.10 Entrants retain the copyright of any images submitted, however the City of Greater Geelong reserves the right to exhibit and publish all entries within the context of the competition on our website, social media accounts and promotion generally. By entering the competition, entrants authorise City of Greater Geelong to publish any images on the Promoter’s promotional material, both in print and electronically, and to exhibit images. In all such cases, every reasonable effort will be made to acknowledge the source of the photograph/s. The City of Greater Geelong will also place the images in their image library for ongoing use and promotion of Geelong.

3. Prizes 

3.1 Twenty-six images will be shortlisted as finalists for a public vote. 

3.2 Thirteen winners will be determined by a public vote and will have their image included within the 2027 calendar. 

3.3 The winners will be recognised on their images by their personal name (not business name). The winner agrees to grant the Promoter a perpetual and non-exclusive licence to use such footage and photographs in all media worldwide.

3.4 The prize is not transferable, exchangeable or redeemable for cash.

3.5 Unless otherwise stated, all costs incurred by a winner to accept or use the prize are the responsibility of the winner. 

4.  Prize draw

4.1 The shortlisted judging will be conducted by a panel on Wednesday 23 September 2026.

4.2 The finalists will be notified by Wednesday 30 September 2026 via email.

4.3 A public vote for the final images to be included in the calendar will take place on the City's website between Friday 2 October and Friday 16 October 2026.

4.4 Winners will be contacted by 23 October 2026 via email.

4.5 The City’s decision is final and conclusive and no correspondence will be entered into.

4.6 The Promoter reserves the right to request that the winner provides proof of identity, prior to publication of the calendar.

4.7 A prize will be deemed unclaimed if the City, despite using reasonable efforts, is not able to deliver the prize to the winner in accordance with condition 4.4.

4.8 If you are the winner, you consent to the City using your name in any media for the purpose of publishing the outcome of this competition.

4.9 If an entrant under 18 years of age is selected for inclusion in the 2027 City of Greater Geelong Calendar, the City may require the parent or guardian who consented to the entrant's participation to provide further written consent to the publication of the entrant's name in accordance with condition 4.8. If the required consent is not provided within 28 days of notification, the City reserves the right not to publish the entrant's photograph or name in the calendar.   

4.10 If this competition is interfered with in any way, or is not capable of being conducted as reasonably anticipated, due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the City, the City reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to the fullest extent permitted by law:

4.10.1 to disqualify any entrant; or

4.10.2 to modify, suspend, terminate or cancel the competition, as appropriate.

5. Disclaimer

The City (including its officers, employees and agents) excludes all liability (including negligence) for any personal injury or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity) whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of the competition, including but not limited to, the following:

5.1 any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under the City’s control);

5.2 any theft, unauthorised access or third-party interference;

5.3 any entry, prize or claim for a prize that is late, lost, altered, damaged or misdirected (whether before or after receipt by the City) due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the City;

5.4 any variation in prize value from that stated in these terms and conditions;

5.5 any tax liability (including FBT) incurred by an entrant or winner; or

5.6 use of the prize.

6. Warranties & Indemnities

6.1   You warrant to the City that you own all rights in and to the photograph, and that the photograph does not and will not infringe the intellectual property rights or any other rights of any third party.

6.2   You indemnify the City against any loss, damage, liability, claim, demand, cost or expense arising from or in connection with any breach of the warranty set out in clause 6.1 above, or any claim by any third party in relation to the photograph or its use by the City.

7. Privacy

7.1   The City of Greater Geelong collects the personal information in your entry for the purpose of conducting the competition. This information is collected and handled in accordance with the City’s Privacy Policy, which is available from www.geelongcity.vic.gov.au and Customer Service Centres. 7.2        The prize winner will make themselves available for publicity and promotional purposes, if required by the City.
