A resilience building program for young people in Geelong
An evidence based program empowering and engaging young people through immersive experiences and strengths based mentoring.
What is Beyond Boxing?
Beyond Boxing is an innovative, early intervention program aimed at nurturing social and emotional resilience in young people. Led by former 2- time World Champion Steve Moxon and child and adolescent mental health advocate Lena Moxon, our approach revolves around recognising and harnessing the strengths inherent in each individual.
We strive to reignite enthusiasm and engagement within communities by offering immersive experiences that foster self-awareness and resilience-building skills.
Central to our program lies the Resilience Doughnut model, developed by Clinical Psychologist Lyn Worsley. This evidence based model enables individuals to take responsibility for their own wellbeing and build competence to face adversity and deal with times of rapid change.
With its focus on strengths and encouragement to do more of “what’s working,” the Resilience Doughnut promotes a process of developmental change within individuals, their families, and communities.
Our innovative approach shifts the focus away from problems and towards identifying natural strengths that empower young people to overcome adversity effectively.
As owners of the esteemed Geelong Boxing Club, Steve and Lena Moxon have instilled robust support systems within the community. By providing young people with tools to manage stress, navigate relationships, and regulate emotions, we empower them to thrive socially, personally, and
academically.
Using boxing as a catalyst for emotional and social regulation offers an engaging alternative for teens resistant to traditional therapy methods. The program integrates boxing sessions with discussions around resilience, mental health, and well-being, led by Steve Moxon, captivating participants and fostering personal growth.
Lena's compassionate and empathetic approach, coupled with her talent for creating a safe and nurturing environment, ensures that participants receive the emotional support they need to navigate the complexities of adolescence. Her presence within the program enriches its holistic approach, ultimately contributing to the overall growth and well-being of the teens involved.
How is the program delivered?
Group Sessions are held in safe environments, whether at school, community centres, or Geelong Boxing Club, a private gym in North Geelong. Delivery of Boxing Sessions is based on a flexible approach that will meet the needs of the group in the moment. Although the sessions are centered around boxing training, it's important to note that there is absolutely no combat involved.
The program can be run over 5 or 10 weeks, depending on the needs of the group. Each session is 60 minutes in duration.
