Noticse of Motion tabled at the Ordinary Meeting of Council on Date which was held at City Hall in Little Malop Street, Geelong.
Given Victorian Premier Denis Napthine’s announcement ruling out the building of a new container port in the City of Greater Geelong, and the state government’s focus on the Port of Hastings, there is an urgent need to discuss and establish the state government’s plans for sea transport in the City of Greater Geelong.
In 2012, a Department of Transport briefing concluded the “Bay West” option offered “significant potential advantages” including ample land, almost unlimited potential berth capacity, and proximity to Avalon Airport.
Cr Richards moved, Cr Macdonald seconded -
That the Mayor and portfolio holders for Enterprise Geelong and Transport seek urgent talks with the Victorian Government and Opposition in regard to the future of sea transport in the Geelong region.
Procedural Motion:
Cr S Kontelj moved, Cr Ansett seconded –
That the Notice of Motion be deferred.
