Notices of Motion tabled at the Ordinary Meeting of Council on 25 February 2014 which was held at City Hall in Little Malop Street, Geelong.
An application has been received under the Councillor Community Grants Program that falls outside the established grant guidelines.
The applicant is the Women’s Cancer Foundation who has applied for $800 to sponsor its charity day golf fundraising event to raise funds for ovarian cancer research.
The application falls outside the grant guidelines that state that projects/activities that have previously received funding from this program will not be funded – (consideration to fund an activity more than once may be given if a significant rationale/benefit is provided – however funds are generally provided on a once only basis). This event has been previously funded from this program on several occasions.
The guidelines also state that exclusively fundraising events are not eligible. The purpose of this Golf Day to raise funds for a charitable organisation.
This is a significant event educating the community on effects of ovarian cancer. This disease is a devastating killer of women and this event contributes heavily to community awareness and further research.
The medical community strongly supports Council’s commitment to this event.
Where Councillors wish to support and fund such applications from the Councillor Community Grants Program funding allocation, the applications are brought to Council.
Cr Harwood moved, Cr Heagney seconded –
