Notices of Motion tabled at the Ordinary Meeting of Council on 8 April 2014 which was held at City Hall in Little Malop Street, Geelong.
A consortium of residents in the area bounded by Aberdeen Street, Aphrasia Street, Melville Avenue, Queens Park Road and Shannon Avenue (known as Newtown – west of Shannon Avenue) have engaged a qualified heritage architect to prepare a preliminary heritage assessment to determine if the area has heritage value that warrants a full heritage assessment and implementation of a heritage overlay.
The findings of the preliminary assessment are:
That the Newtown- west of Shannon Avenue area is that it is of equivalent quality and consistency to other heritage listed areas of Newtown;
There may be two heritage precincts worthy of inclusion in a heritage overlay;
A full heritage assessment should be undertaken.
The preparation of a full heritage assessment will require engagement of specialist consultant to prepare the report and detailed citations of significant properties. There is no budget for this work in the current financial year or a budget proposal submitted for 2014/15.
Cr S Kontelj moved, Cr Harwood seconded -
That Council undertake a full heritage assessment of the Newtown – west of Shannon Avenue area, subject to a successful budget allocation in the 2014/15 and/or the 2015/16 financial years.
Carried.
