More about the Artist

Tal Fitzpatrick (she/her) is an Australian artist and researcher based on the unceded lands of the Kombumerri families of the Yugambeh language region. She holds a PhD in Visual Art from the Victorian College of the Arts (2018) and is best known for her artistic and academic work in the field of craftivism (craft + activism).

As a socially engaged artist working primarily with textiles Tal’s projects use the gentle and familiar textures of cloth to tackle challenging sociopolitical issues including gender-based violence, human rights, the climate crisis and feminine rage.

Tal’s largescale participatory projects, delivered in collaboration with artists Kate Just, Melissa Spratt and Stephanie Dunlap, engage hundreds of makers from all over the world and have been presented by the Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD) at Old Parliament House in Canberra, BLEACH* Festival (2025) on the Gold Coast and the Incinerator Gallery where the @Covid19quilt was awarded the 2020 People's Choice Award.

Tal’s artwork has been presented in solo shows at The Lennox St. Gallery in Melbourne (2025) and ALOW Gallery on the Gold Coast *(2023) and her exhibition ‘Changemakers: Making a difference’, presented by MoAD, has been touring to regional centres across Australia since 2024. Tal was recognised as highly commended in the 2024 Wollumbin Art Award, the same year she completed a six-month artist residency at HOTA Home of the Arts on the Gold Coast as part of HOTA’s award winning ‘ArtKeeper’ program.
