Batteries

Best option for disposal:

Batteries are classified as e-waste and can be dropped off for free at Drysdale Resource Recovery Centre or EcoBatt locations.

It is against the law in Victoria to put e-waste in your kerbside bin.

Best option for disposal:

Car batteries (domestic quantities) can be dropped off for free at Drysdale Resource Recovery Centre or the interim Geelong Resource Recovery Centre. Battery terminals must be covered with tape or plastic caps to reduce fire risk.


Otherwise:

Participating BatteryWorld stores accept lead acid batteries for recycling.

Contact your local mechanic to see if they will accept the battery. 



Best option for disposal:

E cigarettes (vapes) must not be placed in any of your kerbside bins.

It is against the law to place e-waste in kerbside bins in Victoria.

If the battery can be removed safely it can be taken to one of many local battery drop off points.

A trial of vape collection recycling bins is operating until the end of January 2026.

Trial collection bins are located at The Nest Youth Hub and The fOrT Youth Hub.

PC's For Kids at 1 Douro St, North Geelong will accept electric razors during business hours, check their website for further information.

Best option for disposal:

Emergency beacons must be disabled before disposal.

Check the beacon manufacturer’s instructions for disablement and disposal and follow instructions. Make sure you update your registration details.  


Otherwise:

Alternatively, inquire at a local battery store such as Batteryworld if they can disconnect and dispose of beacons (small fee may apply).

Best option for disposal:

Mobile phones are classified as e-waste and cannot be placed in any kerbside collection bins.

All Woolworths supermarkets have mobile phone recycling bins. 

It is against the law in Victoria to put e-waste in your kerbside bin. 


Otherwise:

If you are unable to use Woolworth's recycling service there are many other businesses and community centres that accept phones for recycling. Check MobileMuster for your nearest drop off outlet.

It is good practice to factory reset your phone in the settings and remove the sim card to protect your information.

Best option for disposal:

NBN lead acid backup batteries.

Do not place any type of battery in your kerbside bins.

Participating Battery World stores accept lead batteries for recycling.
